(Seguin) — The Seguin Matadors lead their best-of-three Class 5A bi-district series with South San, 1-0, after a 6-1 victory over the Bobcats in game one Thursday at Matadors Legends Ballpark.
The Mats scored all six of their runs with two outs, plating three in the first inning, two in the second and one in the fifth. Griffin Welfel, Ian Moreno, Matthew Marek and Samuel Edwards each delivered two-out RBI hits in the win.
On the mound, Ethan Tipple threw a five-hit complete game. The junior right-hander walked one batter and struck out four.
Game two of the series is scheduled for today, weather permitting, at the Frank Tejada Sports Complex in San Antonio. First pitch is tentatively set for 4 p.m.
(Pleasanton) — The Navarro Panthers cruised to a 12-0 game one victory at Pleasanton Thursday in the Class 4A bi-district round.
Ryan Davidson struck out seven while scattering four hits in a complete game. Davidson also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and drove in four runs.
Bayley Burgess went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Tyler Riske and Drew Mundine each had two hits.
Game two of the series shifts to Navarro High School tonight. First pitch, weather permitting, is set for 7 p.m.
(Leander) — The Seguin Lady Matador softball team fell in game one of their area round series Thursday at Leander High School, dropping a 15-0 run-rule decision to the Lady Lions.

(Marion) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs and Columbus Lady Cardinals are set to play game three of their Class 3A area series today.
The teams split their first two games Wednesday in Yoakum. Columbus took game one, 7-0, and Marion rallied for a 5-4 win in game two. Game three is tentatively set for 6 p.m. at Marion High School.
(Marion) — The Marion Bulldog baseball team is waiting to learn their area round opponent.
The Bulldogs swept Crystal City in a bi-district doubleheader Wednesday in San Antonio. Marion will face either Columbus or Karnes City in the area round next week.
