(Seguin) — Seguin High School’s Ocean Moreno has received a college football offer from a former Matador coach.

On Monday, the wide receiver announced on social media he has received an offer to play football at UT-Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg. UTRGV is a start-up program helmed by former Seguin High School head coach Travis Bush. Bush served as the head coach at Seguin from 2016 through the 2020 season before moving on to New Braunfels Canyon High School. Following two seasons as the head coach of the Cougars, Bush was hired to helm the startup UTRGV Division-I program in December of 2022. The Vaqueros will start play in 2025.

Moreno was a member of the Academic All District 12-5A team in his junior season last fall. He caught 23 passes for 190 yards in nine games in the 2023 season for Seguin. In his sophomore season, Moreno had 16 receptions for 121 yards in 10 games played.

A speedy wide-out, Moreno also competed at the UIL Class 5A state track meet as a member of Seguin’s 4X100 and 4X200 meter relay teams this past spring. He won a bronze medal at the meet on the 4X100 team along with Nik Henry, Elliot Weaver and Kayden Holz. Moreno, Henry, Weaver and Sammy Bode finished fifth in the state in the 4X200.

Moreno and the Matadors will start their 2024 season on August 30th when they host the Alamo Heights Mules at Matador Stadium. The Seguin Matador football program is led by head coach Craig Dailey. Ernesto Garcia is the program’s recruiting coordinator.
