(San Marcos) — The Seguin Lady Matadors and the Liberty Hill Lady Panthers open their Class 5A three-game Bi-District series this evening in San Marcos.

The Lady Mats come in as the 4th place team in District 26-5A. They went 23-11-2 overall during the regular season, 9-5 in district.

Seguin fell in a tie-breaker game with Kerrville-Tivy on Monday. The Lady Antlers got the 3rd seed in the district. Smithson Valley won the district and San Antonio Veterans Memorial was second.

Seguin is in the playoffs for the second year in a row. The Lady Mats made it to the Bi-District round last year.

Their top two pitchers have one more year under their belts in seniors Madyson Schultze and Kendall Hurt. Both are college commits. Schultze, a lefty recently named an Academic All-State honorable mention, will be attending Incarnate Word. Hurt, a right-handed pitcher, is going to Lamar State College.

Meanwhile, the Lady Panthers were the District 25-5A champions. They are 20-6 overall, going 12-2 in district. Liberty Hill is ranked 23rd in the latest Class 5A coaches poll.

Seguin softball coach John Garcia says the Lady Panthers have a very balanced team.

“They have a great one-two punch pitching and hitting. They’ve got some great pitchers and they can put the bat on the ball,” Garcia said. “So, we’re gonna have to play defense and we’re gonna hopefully try to keep them off-balance as much as we can while they’re in the box and do as best as we can when we face those pitchers.”

Game one of the series is tonight. Game two is Friday and a game three, if necessary, will be held on Saturday at noon. All games will be held at San Marcos High School.

We’ll have all of the games on KWED starting with tonight’s game. Our Lady Matador pregame coverage starts at around 5:45 this afternoon from San Marcos. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on AM 1580 and streaming at SeguinToday.com.

(Geronimo) — The Navarro Lady Panthers will also start their best-of-three Bi-District round series today in Class 4A.

Navarro, the third place team from District 28-4A, will play District 27-4A second place finisher Comal Davenport.

Game one is tonight at 6 p.m. in Geronimo.

Game two will be held on Friday evening at 6 at Davenport High School.

A game three, if necessary, will take place Saturday at Noon at Navarro High School.

(Columbus) — And District 26-3A champion Marion will face Tidehaven in their Class 3A Bi-District match-up starting on Friday.

Games one and two will be held in Columbus. The first game will start at 5:30 with game two following thirty minutes after the completion of game one.

A game three between Marion and Tidehaven, if necessary, will be held at noon on Saturday in Hallettsville.
