(San Marcos) — A number of area high school softball and baseball student-athletes were named Academic All-State by the Texas High School Coaches Association this week.
Seguin softball players Madyson Schultze and Summer Flores were named Honorable Mention on the Academic All-State softball team. Seguin softball coach John Garcia lauded his student-athletes on the academic team.
“They’re very hard working in the classroom,” Garcia said. “Maddy freaks out if she gets below a 95 (grade) like it’s the end of the world or something. But that’s good that she’s focused on her grades. And we do call them student-athletes first. So, they are students and they know that and that’s a big part of what we push here.”
For the Seguin baseball team, Rayjen Tovar, Holt Haas and Seth Cevallos were named to the Academic All-State 2nd Team. Haas and Cevallos were also named to the Academic All-State 2nd Team in football back in the fall.
Seguin baseball players Gavin Molina and Creed Weaver earned Academic All-State Honorable Mentions. Weaver was also an Academic All-State Honorable Mention for the Seguin football team. Molina also earned honorable mention academic all-state for the Seguin basketball team.
And for the Navarro softball team, student-athletes Kaislynn Tovar and Haley Karlik were selected to the Academic All-State 2nd Team.
