Where to watch: Viewing, parking and traffic plans for Fireworks Fiesta

(Seguin) – As thousands of people prepare to gather Friday night for Seguin’s Fireworks Fiesta,  city officials are encouraging folks to plan ahead before heading to Max Starcke Park.

The city’s fireworks show begins at 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 3, and can be viewed from several locations around the park.

Recommended viewing areas include both the east and west sides of Max Starcke Park, as well as the Seguin Events Complex, Coliseum and Softball 4-Plex.

To protect public safety and accommodate the fireworks launch area, city officials say several parking restrictions and road closures will be in place.

Fred Byrd Drive will be closed throughout the day, with no public parking allowed. Vehicles left there will be towed. Parking also will not be permitted along the grass on South Austin Street near Starcke Park and the golf course.

Beginning at 9 p.m., traffic will be closed at several intersections, including South Austin Street at Austin Pass, South Guadalupe Street at McKee Street, Nelda Street at South Guadalupe Street, Stockdale Highway at Tor Drive and Tor Drive at Signal Hill. Access from South Guadalupe Street to McKee Street also will be closed.

Officials say following the fireworks, traffic will be directed away from the park using designated exit routes to help move vehicles safely and efficiently.

Visitors leaving Starcke Park East will be required to head south on South Austin Street. Those leaving Starcke Park West, the Coliseum or the Softball 4-Plex will be directed northbound through Boenig Street and other connecting routes, including Short, Stratton, Legette, South Saunders and Guadalupe streets. Motorists exiting via Stockdale Highway may either continue straight or turn left onto Tor Drive.

Restrooms will be available throughout the park and at the Events Complex for those attending the celebration. They will also be available at the dance slab and softball four-plex.

City officials encourage spectators to arrive early, bring lawn chairs or blankets, tune their radios to KWED 1580 AM for the synchronized patriotic soundtrack, and allow extra time for traffic after the show concludes.
