(Guadalupe County) — The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office is reporting the results of two recent traffic enforcement efforts aimed at improving roadway safety across the county.
During June, officials say deputies worked extra patrols as part of the Sheriff’s Traffic Overtime Project, targeting areas identified through citizen complaints and known traffic concerns. Eleven deputies worked 33 overtime shifts, making 287 traffic stops and contacts. Those efforts resulted in 37 citations, 227 warnings, and three arrests.
The busiest enforcement areas included Huber Road, SH 123, SH 46, the Navarro Ranch subdivision, and several other county roads and neighborhoods.
Sheriff Joshua Ray says residents are encouraged to continue reporting traffic concerns so deputies can focus enforcement where it is needed most.
The sheriff’s office also partnered with the Texas Department of Public Safety and Guadalupe County Constable Precinct 4 during the Fourth of July holiday for Operation Stars, Stripes and Sobriety. The two-day operation on July 3 and 4 focused on removing impaired drivers and addressing other criminal activity along SH 123 and SH 46.
Combined efforts by all participating agencies resulted in 206 traffic stops, 76 citations, 134 warnings, four DWI arrests, six warrant arrests, and four arrests involving controlled substances. Officers also conducted three K-9 deployments that resulted in positive narcotics alerts, and six individuals were referred to federal immigration authorities.
During the operation, deputies also arrested a driver after a vehicle fled from a traffic stop on SH 46. Authorities say the pursuit ended near the Guadalupe River after the vehicle traveled through the Elley Crossing subdivision. The driver was charged with evading arrest with a vehicle, while the passenger was released.
The sheriff’s office says it will continue working with its law enforcement partners on traffic enforcement initiatives to help keep Guadalupe County roads safe.
