(Seguin) — The Seguin Public Library is inviting the community to experience the power of stories and music this week through two special programs being offered as part of its Summer Reading Experience.
Funded through grant support, the back-to-back events will feature nationally and internationally recognized artists who will engage participants through interactive storytelling and music-making activities designed to inspire creativity and cultural appreciation.
The first program, African Folktales with Elizabeth Kahura, will be held today at 11 a.m. (Thursday, July 9), at the library. Kahura, a storyteller, performer and educator, will share traditional African folktales while demonstrating how storytelling connects people, preserves cultures, shapes identities and builds self-confidence. The presentation is open to all ages, although registration is required.
The Summer Reading Experience continues on Friday, July 10, with the Music-Making Workshop featuring Kamica King beginning at noon. King, an internationally recognized singer-songwriter, will lead participants through an interactive session using percussion instruments, songs and group activities to explore rhythm, creativity and self-expression. The beginner-friendly workshop is open to anyone age 10 and older, with registration also required.
Library officials say both programs are designed to give participants hands-on experiences that encourage learning beyond the pages of a book while highlighting the arts as an important part of literacy and lifelong learning.
Both events are free to attend but advance registration is required.
To register, contact the Seguin Public Library at 830-401-2422 or visit library.seguintexas.gov.
