Fire destroys home plus garage near Lake Dunlap; One resident treated for smoke inhalation

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today

(Guadalupe County) — Multiple fire departments responded Tuesday to a structure fire that destroyed a home and garage in northern Guadalupe County. The fire was reported near the intersection of FM 725 and Leisure Village Drive.

Bryce Houlton, assistant fire marshal and emergency management coordinator for Guadalupe County, says the fire was reported Tuesday night.

“Tuesday evening at about 9:50 at the corner of FM 725 and Leisure Village Drive, the sheriff’s office received a call for a possible structure fire in the area. Lake Dunlap Volunteer Fire Department was the first department dispatched. They quickly started requesting resources from everybody, including the McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department, Marion Volunteer Fire Department, Guadalupe County Fire Rescue, and also the City of New Braunfels Fire Department (and) Schertz EMS,” said Houlton.

When firefighters arrived, Houlton says they found both a residence and detached garage engulfed in flames.

“When units arrived, they found a fully engulfed single-family residence in a detached garage. There was a resident that was in the vicinity of the fire when it started. She was checked out by Schertz EMS and ended up being transported for minor smoke inhalation to a local hospital. Last check is she’s doing fine. I believe she’s been released already from the hospital,” said Houlton.

He says firefighters worked for about an hour to bring the blaze under control.

“It took fire personnel about an hour to get the fire fully under control just because of the two different structures that were burning and a kind of close proximity to the fence lines and how they were out there. The sheriff’s office as well as the Precinct 4 constable’s office provided traffic control and support while on scene. FM 725 was shut down to run a supply line from a fire hydrant across the street to the fire scene to allow for water supply. The road was shut down for approximately two, 2 1/2 hours to allow that to happen,” said Houlton.

Officials say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
