(Seguin) — If you missed our Saturday Topic program on the data centers that are coming to Guadalupe County, you can now listen to it on-demand at seguintoday.com.

There are two data center projects in the works. The Palamino Alpha would be located off of State Highway 123 near Zorn, while the latest is CloudBurst Data Center, which would be built along Centerpoint Road also in northern Guadalupe County.

Our program on Saturday focused on the proposed CloudBurst Data Center. Cynthia Thompson, co-founder and executive chairperson of CloudBurst Data Centers, was our guest.

Thompson talked about data centers in general but focuses primarily on the specifics of the company’s proposed $14 billion project.

Thompson says data centers are being built at a rapid pace, because AI and other technologies have become such a big part of our lives.

“Traditional data centers, for lack of a better description, are really just warehouses that hold a lot of servers in them. Those servers are connected to everything from 911 operation centers to banks to your local schools, universities, retailers, etc. So, it’s really become the fabric of communication around the world today. It’s a very vital aspect of the economy,” said Thompson.

Thompson address energy and water concerns during the interview, saying that they will generate their own power onsite and they will also mitigate their water usage by using a high tech closed-loop system that will significantly reduce their need for water.
