New York style pizzas on the menu for a good cause

$10 pizzas to benefit local non-profit

(Seguin) — Tonight, pizza lovers in Seguin can help support local families with special needs — one slice at a time.

The Brick is partnering with Beyond 22 for a fundraiser featuring $10 pizzas. The event begins at 5 p.m. and customers can dine in or carry out while supplies last.

According to organizers, 100 percent of the proceeds from the $10 pepperoni or cheese pizzas will go directly to Beyond 22, a nonprofit organization that supports families facing autism and other disabilities.

Christina Barton, of Beyond 22, says the fundraiser benefits both the nonprofit and the restaurant as The Brick introduces its new menu item to the community.

“It’s a win win for everybody. The Brick is rolling out their brand new 18 inch New York Style Pizza. So, they thought that it would be a good idea to go ahead and do a fundraiser for us while sharing the New York Style Pizza with the community. So, it’s a win win for us and for them. We just don’t know what to say. We’re just so graciously humbled by their generosity,” said Barton.

Barton says organizers have a goal and are hoping tonight for a strong turnout.

“They want to sell 100 pizzas. I mean, Chef Robert has shared with me that he thinks he’s going to sell all of them. So, we hope he does,” said Barton.

Beyond 22 is a Seguin-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides resources, educational opportunities and activities for families with different abilities, including assistance navigating the ARD and IEP process.

Barton says community fundraisers like tonight’s event are critical to keeping the organization operating.

“We are funded only by fundraising. So that’s why we have to continuously fundraise throughout the year. We don’t receive any funds from the United Way or from any private foundation or anything like that. Everything is community raised by the generosity of the public. We are trying to increase our funding because we’re kind of running on fumes right now,” said Barton.

The Brick is located at 736 E. Kingsbury St. Those wishing to support the organization but unable to attend may also donate to the group via a QR code found on the Brick’s or group’s Facebook page.
