Seguin advances idea for new fire station north of I-10

(Seguin) — The City of Seguin is moving forward with plans to build a new fire station, which would be its first north of Interstate 10. Establishing a fire station north of the highway is considered important due to the rapid growth occurring in that area.

Fire Chief Dale Skinner says Fire Station No. 4 will be designed by Martinez Architects. Skinner says the firm emerged as the top choice after a careful review process conducted by city staff.

“We were given the funds by (city) council through the budget process for Fire Station No. 4 in the sum of $900,000. We then hired an owner’s rep who helped facilitate where we are today, which they solicit bids or proposals from architectural firms. We had 24 architectural firms submit proposals. We formed a review committee where we graded and ranked them, and then we conducted interviews with the top three. And then the committee unanimously agreed that Martinez Architects were the best for the city,” said Skinner.

Martinez Architects is expected to design an 11,000-square-foot fire station that will accommodate six firefighters and two company officers. The facility will include three drive-through bays, living accommodations and ancillary workspaces.

The station will be built near the intersection of Huber and Rudeloff roads as part of a master-planned community that is also slated for development in the area.

The design phase is expected to cost the city $791,000. The total cost of construction of the new fire station is approximately $7 million.
