(Austin) — Navarro sophomore Emersen Cochran earned a bronze medal in the girls 400-meter dash at the UIL Class 4A State Track and Field Meet on Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Cochran crossed the tape in 56.41 seconds, improving on the sixth-place finish she posted in the same event as a freshman a year ago.

Cochran wasn’t the only Panther making noise in Austin. Lilia Flo took on double duty in the distance events, placing eighth in both the girls 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run. Flo finished the 1,600 in 5:15.87 and the 3,200 in 11:29.25.

Marion also had a pair of athletes compete in the Class 3A field events. Senior Kaitlyn Rackley posted a fourth-place finish in the girls pole vault, clearing 11 feet. Junior Brody Fizer placed seventh in the boys pole vault after topping out at 14 feet. Both athletes represented the Bulldogs on the same day in Austin.

Seguin contributed two finalists of its own on Friday. Freshman Paige Leyendecker placed eighth in the Class 5A girls long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 2.75 inches. Junior Adrian Rangel rounded out the area’s state meet contingent with a ninth-place finish in the boys 1,600-meter run, crossing the line in 4:26.72.
