(Austin) — Six student-athletes from area schools will compete at the UIL State Track and Field Meet in Austin, beginning Thursday.
Seguin High School freshman Paige Leyendecker and junior Adrian Rangel will compete in the Class 5A meet on Friday. Leyendecker will take part in the girls long jump, while Rangel will run in the boys 1,600 meters. Both athletes earned silver medals at the Class 5A Region IV meet earlier this month.
Navarro High School will be represented in the Class 4A competition by sophomore Emerson Cochran and senior Lilia Flo. Cochran will run in the girls 400-meter dash. She also qualified for the state meet as a freshman last year, finishing sixth in the event. Flo will compete in two events — the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs. She also competed at the state cross country meet last fall, finishing 18th.
Marion High School senior Kaitlyn Rackley and junior Brody Fizer will compete in Class 3A — Rackley in the girls pole vault and Fizer in the boys pole vault. Rackley was the state silver medalist in the event a year ago, while Fizer placed ninth. On Monday, Rackley will sign a letter of intent to compete in track and field at the Air Force Academy.
