Seguin Lady Matadors earn multiple All-District 27-5A softball honors

(Seguin) — Several Seguin Lady Matadors earned postseason recognition on the 2026 All-District 27-5A softball team following a district co-championship season.

Senior catcher Morgan Schultze earned first-team honors and was named Catcher of the Year. Schultze batted .365 this season and posted a .942 fielding percentage behind the plate.

Senior pitcher Marissa Torrence was named Pitcher of the Year and also earned a first-team selection. Torrence struck out 72 batters in 78⅔ innings this season and led the Lady Matadors at the plate with a .522 batting average while clubbing four home runs.

Senior center fielder Brylee Wieding and freshman shortstop Celeste Arroyo rounded out Seguin’s first-team selections. Wieding led the Lady Matadors with nine home runs and 26 stolen bases. Arroyo finished second on the team with 24 stolen bases and posted a .952 fielding percentage from the shortstop position.

Sophomore outfielder Vida Hernandez and senior first baseman Erin Johnston earned second-team honors. Junior Kaelyn Gutierrez, freshmen Isabella Herrera and Brealyn Wieding, and senior Amaya Olivares received honorable mention recognition.

Schultze, Torrence, Arroyo, the Wieding sisters, Johnston, Gutierrez, Olivares, junior Madisyn Caballero, sophomore Zayetzy Gonzalez, junior Kaydence Mercer and senior Alexandria Seiler were named to the Academic All-District team. Schultze and Johnston also earned Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All-State honorable mention honors.

Seguin finished with an 11-1 record in District 27-5A and advanced to the area round of the UIL playoffs for the second consecutive season. The Lady Matadors are coached by first-year head coach Terrie Nowlin.
