Projected timeline set for Guadalupe County’s Major Thoroughfare Plan

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today

(Seguin) — Guadalupe County officials continue to solidify its plans — putting firmer dates on what has been a months long process to finalize the county’s Major Thoroughfare Plan. The county is hoping to offer residents a clearer picture of when they will be able to review the latest draft and weigh in on what future transportation corridors could mean for their property.

The Guadalupe County Commissioners Court recently approved an updated timeline for the next phase of the planning process, which includes the release of a revised draft map, two public hearings and “eventual court consideration of a final plan.”

That’s according to Guadalupe County Judge Kyle Kutscher.

“It still looks like the final plan draft could be out for public review May 5th. (We will) announce a public hearing number one, at least by May 15th, if not earlier, to have that first public hearing on May 19th, maybe at 1 or 2 o’clock in the afternoon. And then announce the second public hearing in May — also for June 2nd would be the second public hearing and then potentially court dates to consider final action and or decision,” said Kutscher.

He says that timeline will give residents several opportunities to review the updated maps once they are released.

He says the final timeline will also depend heavily on what residents bring forward during the public meetings.

“But also the ending of this project and process is going to be dependent upon how much input is received during the two public meetings, how many potential changes are to be made by commissioners court, final draft modifications to be returned to us, then to have (them) ready for commissioners court and a public hearing. So, it’d be nice if we could just state all the dates right now, but I think that the ending process is really going to be determined by how these additional public meetings go and (any) potential changes from the commissioners,” said Kutscher.

County officials say the Major Thoroughfare Plan is designed to project Guadalupe County’s long-term transportation needs as growth continues across the region. That planning often includes identifying future roadway corridors – in some cases through areas where no roads currently exist. This they say has prompted concern from several property owners who continue to watch the process closely.

Once the preliminary plans are released, the county will forward details on how they can be accessed for review — prior to the first public meeting.
