Heritage Museum hosts fundraiser celebrating the History of the Texas Rangers

(Seguin) — The Texas Rangers have been protecting Texans since the 1800s, and now that legacy will be celebrated this week at a special event hosted by the Seguin Heritage Museum. The event, An Evening with the Texas Rangers, will be held 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Palace Theatre.

Donna Brawner, of the Heritage museum, says tickets for the evenare still on sale. She says the event provides both live music and a chance to learn the important history of the Texas Rangers.

“We’re going to have entertainment at six o’clock with Dottsy Dwyer and the Hudibury’s, and that’s going to last until about 6:30. And then after that, we’re going to begin our program,” said Brawner.

Brawner says the program explores the rich history of the Rangers — starting in the early days and stretching all the way into current times.

“The Texas Rangers have been so famous for so long. Everybody knows the name, but do they know the real history and where the Texas Rangers are headed today? So, we’re going to have Floyd McKee, who is our resident historian, who has put many articles in the Seguin Gazette. And by resident historian, I don’t mean for the museum, I mean for Seguin and Guadalupe County. And then we’re going to have Marrie Aldridge, who was one of the first female Texas Rangers; and we’re going to have our own sheriff, Joshua Ray, there, who was a former Texas Ranger. So, we’re covering the history, women in law enforcement, and then also what the Texas Rangers are all about today,” said Brawner.

Brawner is hoping for a big turnout this Thursday. She says they believe that people will be fascinated by the stories and the history of the Rangers in Texas.

“The reason why we decided to do this is, obviously it’s a fundraiser for the museum. But we wanted to find something that people in Seguin and Guadalupe County and other surrounding areas would be interested in attending. And with the photos that we have from back in the day of the Texas Rangers, they were an amazing group of individuals. I’ll tell you, I could have never been a Texas Ranger. You could not have gotten me on a horse to go out and search for bandits and Native Americans that had raided settlers. No way. So, it’s going to be an interesting perspective on exactly what pioneer frontier Texas was like,” Brawner.

Brawner says the special night serves as a major fundraiser for the nonprofit museum, located on River Street in downtown Seguin.

“By coming out to this event, you’re supporting Seguin and Guadalupe County’s Historical Museum. We have artifacts. We have some genealogies. We have thousands of pictures of early Seguin, and basically how the community progressed from the early 1830s on up until today. This is the way we keep our doors open and lights on. So, we really need the community support on this,” said Brawner.

Brawner says tickets are $20 each and are now available at several locations.

“We have tickets on sale now…at the Heritage Museum, and they’re also on sale at Parker City Pharmacy and at Gift & Gourmet. We will be selling tickets at the door,” said Brawner.

The Palace Theatre is located at 314 S. Austin St.
