(Seguin) — Celeste Arroyo launched a three-run home run over the left field wall in the bottom of the eighth inning to propel the Seguin Lady Matadors to an 8-5 walk-off victory in Game 1 of their Class 5A bi-district series against San Antonio Southwest on Thursday night at Matador Legends Ballpark.

The Lady Matadors found themselves trailing 5-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh. Marissa Torrence, who homered earlier in the game, led off the inning with a single, and two batters later, Erin Johnston drove one deep over the wall in right-center for a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 5-4. Brylee Wieding followed with a solo shot to left-center — back-to-back home runs — knotting the game at 5.

In the bottom of the eighth, Zayetzy Gonzalez singled with two outs. Southwest then pitched around Torrence, issuing the junior a four-pitch walk to bring Arroyo to the plate. The freshman’s game-winning blast was her first home run of the season.

Torrence earned the win in the circle, starting and going four-plus innings. Kaelyn Gutierrez pitched two and a third innings of relief, and Vida Hernandez recorded one out in the seventh. Torrence returned to the circle in the eighth and retired all three batters she faced to pick up the victory.

(Jourdanton) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs advanced to the area round of the Class 3A playoffs with a 4-3 victory over Crystal City in a one-game bi-district playoff Thursday in Jourdanton. Camby Dojahn hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie and send Marion to the next round.

Dojahn doubled home Lailah Hernandez in the top of the third to get the Lady Bulldogs on the board. Alyson Robles grounded out to drive in another run as Marion jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

Crystal City responded with three unearned runs in the bottom of the third. Marion answered with an unearned run in the fourth to tie the game at 3, and it remained deadlocked until Dojahn led off the seventh with the decisive blow.

Alizayah Della Ragione went the distance in the circle, allowing three unearned runs on five hits while striking out eight. Marion will face Columbus in the area round next week.

(Devine) — The Devine Arabians rallied for a 12-8 victory in Game 1 of their Class 4A bi-district best-of-three series against Navarro on Thursday night in Devine.
