Seguin goes Green for Earth Day

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today
Seguin goes Green for Earth Day

Special by Lindsay Hajek, assistant director of main street and destination Seguin

(Seguin) — Earth Day takes place on Saturday, April 25, at Central Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., bringing together community members, local organizations and businesses to highlight environmental stewardship and conservation efforts.

Sponsors including Caterpillar Inc., CMC Steel, Guadalupe County Groundwater Conservation District, GVEC, Renewal by Andersen and Schertz Bank & Trust will showcase ways to protect natural resources through interactive booths, demonstrations and hands on activities. More than 70 vendors will be on site, offering a mix of crafts, goods and food.

Several departments from the City of Seguin will participate by offering demonstrations and educational experiences to engage residents and strengthen community partnerships around environmental awareness, including Main Street, City Administration, Planning and Codes, Utilities, Public Works, Parks and Recreation and Animal Services. Live entertainment will take place throughout the day at the Gazebo, beginning with the Vogel Elementary Choir at 10:30 a.m., followed by a performance from the CMP Band at 1 p.m. Children can enjoy a range of activities, including a free bounce house and obstacle course by Jungle Jam Xtreme.

An electric vehicle showcase will feature the latest in clean transportation, with vehicles provided by Beck & Beck Buick GMC LLC and Seguin Chevrolet. A dedicated EV station will highlight a variety of models and innovations aimed at reducing emissions and promoting sustainable travel.

There will also be an Earth Day raffle featuring items donated by vendors. Proceeds will support future downtown beautification projects, with $1 tickets available at the information booth and winners announced throughout the day.

Those looking to support a local cause can begin the day with the 13th annual Race to Raise 5K, which begins and ends at the Seguin Public Library. All proceeds benefit the LifeSaver Grant Program, with a portion designated to the General Endowment at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center. Funds raised are used to purchase equipment and materials and support programs that enhance and advance patient care, making the race a meaningful way to give back to the community ahead of the Earth Day festivities.
