Ola Mae Jackson

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today

Ola Mae Jackson

Ola Mae Jackson was born in the family home in Bexar County on November 7, 1927.

She was the only child born to Anton Hoffmann and Elvira Bielke Hoffmann. She was the first of 56 Bielke grandchildren. Ola Mae was raised all her young life in Bexar and Guadalupe counties in Texas. She was baptized and confirmed in the Redeemer Church of Christ in Zuehl, Texas.

Ola Mae was 17 years old when a terrible hailstorm ruined all the farmers’ crops. It was then that Ola Mae went to work at Randolph Air Force Base, where she met and fell in love with a young airman named Eugene Jackson. After a three-month courtship, they were married. This marriage lasted for 68 years and 4 months until the Good Lord called Eugene home.

Ola Mae and Eugene had six children: three daughters, Barbara Anderson, Carolyn Norris, and Jo Ann Shatz; and three sons, Ray Jackson (Kathy), Kenneth Jackson, and Roger Jackson. They also had two honorary daughters, Peggy (Mary Margaret) Larson and Frances Borchers, and one goddaughter, Sylvia Kelso. They were also blessed with 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Ola Mae and Eugene did a lot of traveling after they retired. They traveled through 44 of the original 48 states and made one trip to both Germany and Austria. Ola Mae liked to say, “We had a good life. Thank you, Lord.”
