(Seguin) — The Seguin Matadors will look to stay perfect in District 27-5A tonight when they host the Highlands Owls at Matador Legends Ballpark on KWED.
Seguin is 15-8 on the season and 3-and-0 early on in district play. The Matadors are looking for consecutive district championships after winning their first district title in 19 years last season. The Mats have a veteran pitching staff back this year led by returning members Griffin Welfel, Jackson Kirchner, and Samuel Edwards.
Seguin head baseball coach Mike Gonzales says those three guys and Ethan Tipple have stepped up on a deep pitching staff.
“Sam and Grif are some seasoned vets. They’ve played at the varsity level every year in high school, Kirchner as well,” Gonzales said. “They all bring a great complement to the staff. And another guy is Ethan Tipple. He’s like a Swiss Army Knife. He does it all. He plays a good shortstop and goes in there and throw strikes. He’s our leadoff guy. So, he’s really emerged as one of our guys.”

The Lady Mats are 5-and-0 in District 27-5A. The Lady Matadors and Lady Owls get their game underway at 7 p.m. as well tonight at Matador Legends Ballpark.
(San Antonio) — The Navarro Lady Panthers are at San Antonio Kennedy tonight. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
(Geronimo) — The Navarro Panther baseball team hosts Gonzales this afternoon. That matinee starts at 2 o’clock at the old Navarro High School.
(Poteet) — The Marion Bulldog baseball team is playing at Poteet this afternoon. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
(Jourdanton) — The Marion Lady Bulldog softball team is at Jourdanton tonight. That game gets underway at 6:30 this evening at Jourdanton High School.
