Is your Seguin trash pickup day changing? Residents urged to check new schedule

(Seguin) — A majority of city of Seguin residents will soon see a change in their weekly trash and recycling pickup schedule, and city officials are encouraging households to check their updated collection day to avoid missing service.

Beginning Monday, March 16, 2026, garbage and recycling collection routes will be adjusted across the city as service provider Waste Connections updates its operations to keep pace with Seguin’s growth.

That’s according to Jennifer Sourdellia, the city of Seguin public information officer. She says the changes will affect a large portion of local households.

“We will have quite a big percentage (to be impacted). So, we’re looking at about 85 percent of our city customers. That’s going to impact about 11,000 of our 14,000 residents. So, I would venture to say yes, it’s going to be quite the impact for several people,” said Sourdellia.

Sourdellia says the shift in routes is being implemented by the city’s contracted provider in response to increasing service demands.

“Waste Connections wants to address our city’s rapid growth and our increased service demand. So they are the ones that have rolled out this change,” said Sourdellia.

Along with new pickup days for many customers, the change will also simplify service by collecting garbage and recycling on the same day.

Sourdellia says that adjustment should make things easier for residents who currently have separate pickup days.

“The cool thing about this is that now both garbage and recycling, they’re going to be picked up on the same day. So currently, if you have your garbage and recycling that are picked up on different days of the week, now they’re going to be both picked up on the same day with this change,” said Sourdellia.

Because so many households will see a change, residents are strongly encouraged to confirm their new collection day before the new schedule takes effect.

Sourdellia says the city has made it simple for residents to check online.

“You can go onto our city webpage at SeguinTexas.gov. There is a GIS button on the front page. You can click there and then there’s going to be a city services app that you can open up. And all you have to do is simply type in your address and you can instantly see your updated trash collection day on that link,” said Sourdellia.

Residents can also find the link to check their collection day on the City of Seguin and KWED/Seguin Daily News Facebook pages. That information is also available in today’s online edition of the Seguin Daily News found at Seguintoday.com.

City officials say checking ahead of time will help ensure residents don’t miss placing their carts at the curb once the new schedule begins next week.
