(Seguin) — The story behind how Texas Lutheran University became a Hispanic-Serving Institution will take center stage tonight as the university hosts a public screening of a new documentary highlighting that milestone and the years of work that led up to it.
The film, Becoming an HSI: A TLU Story, will be shown tonight, Thursday, February 26 at 6 p.m. on the TLU campus.
Produced by TLU alum Ryan Anderson, the documentary explores the university’s path to officially earning Hispanic-Serving Institution designation from the U.S. Department of Education in 2018 — a journey shaped by intentional outreach, campus leadership and a commitment to diversity long before the designation was granted.
Guests are invited to gather outside Langner Hall, 502 Prexy Street, for a light dinner and refreshments before moving indoors to the Center for Mexican American Studies for the screening.
Tracy Donley, a representative for TLU, says the evening is both a celebration and a reflection.
As an HSI, she says TLU meets federal criteria for enrolling a significant percentage of Hispanic students.
A question-and-answer session with Anderson and university representatives will follow the film. The event is free and open to the public.
