(Seguin) — The crack of the bat and the first pitch of a brand-new season are all happening this Saturday as Seguin Little League celebrates Opening Day.
Included in this year’s line-up is a full day of baseball, food and vendors.
Bekah Laine, a Seguin Little League board of director and opening day committee member, says the organization is looking forward to another great spring season.
“We have over 50 teams this year and that makes up our softball players, baseball (players) and we also have our Challengers division and that’s for our kiddos who need a little more support. We’ve got a really good season coming up. All the coaches have been excited. We’ve been making some improvements at the fields. Our press boxes are almost done. We started games this week, so we typically start games a week before opening day. So, we are getting back into the groove of things,” said Laine.
Kicking things off during Opening Ceremonies will be the posting of colors by Seguin High School’s ROTC followed by the traditional parade of teams beginning at 10 a.m.
After grabbing lunch at the Bullpen concession stand, families are invited to snap a keepsake photo at the Opening Day MVP photo wall.
Laine says this year’s Opening Day will also spotlight strong community support with a host of local vendors who will all be on hand throughout the day.
“We have several vendors that will be over by our concession area, and they love to come out and sell different products and treats and they are people from the Seguin community. They are out there from the morning into the afternoon,” said Laine.
Helping to throw out the first pitch on behalf of baseball will be Seguin City Manager Steve Parker. Taking the bump for softball will be Seguin Mayor Donna Dodgen. Also, representing the Challengers Division on the mound this year will be Joe Guerra of the McQueeney Lions Club.
