(Seguin) — The clock is ticking for Seguin.
With just nine days remaining until the new February 28 deadline, community leaders are urgently calling on residents to rally once again and secure Seguin’s top spot in Parade Magazine’s “America’s Favorite Small Town” contest.
Voting in the national competition was extended after an earlier deadline had already circulated. Approaching that original deadline, Seguin was sitting in the lead at #1. Much of the enthusiasm for continuing their votes, however, reportedly died down after learning that the contest was extended for another month.
Nonetheless, Blair Friar, director of Seguin Main Street and the Seguin Visitors Bureau, says the final stretch has officially arrived and encourages the troops to feverishly resume their operation of getting Seguin back to the top spot.
“We are still going for it. We will see a lot more pushes now that we are kind of in that final stretch. We are working on that ground floor campaign just getting out there and talking to people and there may or may not be some buttons being made to be handed out around town too,” said Friar.
Friar says the voting system remains the same and hopes that new folks join the fight to win the national Parade Magazine contest.
“I am confident. I think if we all just kind of work together and get out there — it takes no time out of your day. You just go vote. It takes maybe a minute and use all your emails and go out and get us some more votes so we can move on up,” said Friar.
City officials say national recognition from Parade would bring valuable exposure to Seguin’s historic downtown, local businesses and tourism efforts — potentially serving as a catalyst for future economic development and increased visitation.
