(Seguin) — Amika Wellness Studio, which opened at the start of the new year, celebrated its ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, February 10.

Nearby, Sotelo and Company Salon and Spa, which opened in 2025, continues to grow and will soon welcome the addition of the Archive Coffee & Cocktail Bar. All located on West Donegan Street, just steps from Central Park, these businesses are strengthening downtown’s sense of place, while bringing energy and connection to the heart of the city.

When deciding where to bring his business, Mario Sotelo chose downtown Seguin for its charm and sense of community. He is the co-owner of Sotelo & Company Salon and Spa at 124 West Donegan Street and also behind the Archive Coffee & Cocktail Bar next door. The Archive will be open to salon clients, but also anyone looking to enjoy a coffee or cocktail.

“Downtown Seguin has so much character and history, and I felt it deserved businesses that honored that while bringing something fresh and elevated to the area,” said Sotelo. “I grew up valuing community and local connections, and opening Sotelo &; Company Salon & Spa downtown felt like a way to invest back into the city in a meaningful way — creating a space where people feel welcome, confident, and taken care of.”

Sotelo and Company Salon and Spa specialize in hair, skin, waxing, and injections, aiming to create an elevated yet approachable experience.

“From the moment someone walks in, we want them to feel relaxed, valued, and inspired,” said Sotelo. “It’s not just a salon visit — it’s time set aside for yourself.”

The vision extends beyond beauty, as Sotelo prepares to open Archive Coffee and Cocktail Bar, which complements the salon by creating a space where people can linger and connect.

“Beauty, coffee, and cocktails all share something in common — they bring people together and elevate everyday moments. By combining them, we’re creating a destination rather than just a service. Whether someone is getting ready for the day or unwinding in the evening, we want to offer an experience that fits naturally into their lifestyle,” said Sotelo.

Amika Wellness Studio at 112 West Donegan Street, is owned by Lori Osborne and Kristal Wessels. The studio offers classes including Pilates Reformer, Mat Pilates, Yoga, and Hip-Hop Movement, all designed for a variety of fitness levels and lifestyles. Faith-based and rooted in friendship, Amika Wellness Studio was born from the owners’ own fitness journeys.

“Lori and I have dealt with our own journey of struggling with a consistent workout regimen. We’ve tried countless gyms, workouts and programs but nothing felt realistic or fun for women like us who wanted movement without intimidation. Amika was created to be a space where people can be supported and seen,” said Wessels. “Amika means friend and that’s exactly what we want our studio to be.”

Amika Wellness Studio offers more than just classes; it is a hub for wellness and community. Members and visitors can stop by Batch Atelier, a grab-and-go wellness bar located inside the studio. Drinks and snacks are selected from a fridge and paid for via QR code, offering everything from fresh juices and protein shakes to wellness shots and healthy bites. The studio also hosts special events, from puppy yoga to collaborations with Seguin businesses like Chick- fil-A.

“Our goal this year is to reach the community of Seguin in a fun way, to help people on their journey of wellness,” said Wessels. “We’d like to support and collaborate with as many small businesses as we can. Amika has big ideas for the first year and we hope Seguin will rally with us.”

These new businesses are helping shape a downtown that reflects the community spirit that makes Seguin unique. Their efforts to connect with neighbors and support local talent are creating a place where both residents and visitors feel at home.

“We’re proud to be part of Seguin’s growth and excited to contribute to a downtown that feels vibrant, welcoming, and full of life. None of these works without the support of the community, and we’re incredibly grateful for that,” said Sotelo. “My goal is to help elevate Seguin in a way that still feels welcoming and true to the community.”
