High school softball: Lady Panthers host Navarro tournament

The first high school softball tournaments of the season are underway today.

(Geronimo) — The Navarro Lady Panthers are opening play today in the Navarro softball tournament.

The games are taking place at the softball field at the old Navarro High School. Four other teams are competing in the tournament with the Lady Panthers: Poth, Austin Crockett, Jarrell, and San Antonio Churchill. Round-robin games are taking place today and tomorrow. The tournament championship will take place on Saturday.

Navarro won its first game of the season, 18-16 over Lytle on Monday behind three home runs from three-time all-district catcher Shelbi Stevens. The Lady Panthers have two games today in the tournament. Navarro will play Jarrell at 11:30 this morning and Churchill at 4 p.m. this afternoon.

(Comal County) — The Seguin Lady Matadors, winners of their first game of the season 17-4 at New Braunfels Long Creek on Tuesday, are at the Comal ISD tournament today. That tournament will run through Saturday.

(Ingram) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs are in the Hill Country at the Ingram tournament.

Marion started its season with a 17-11 opening day victory over Harper on Tuesday at Marion High School. The Ingram tournament also runs through Saturday.
