High school basketball: Seguin teams fall while Navarro and Marion squads earn doubleheader splits on Tuesday

(San Antonio) — The Seguin Lady Matadors fell on the road in their final regular-season game Tuesday.

San Antonio Highlands defeated the Lady Mats 58-36, with Phaedra Douglas pacing Seguin with 11 points.

Seguin finished the regular season with 16 wins and a fourth-place finish in District 27-5A at 9-7. The Lady Matadors will face San Antonio Southwest in the UIL Class 5A Division I bi-district round Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Southwest High School.

(Seguin) — The Seguin Matador boys fell 61-43 to Highlands at Goldie Harris Gym on Tuesday.

Jio Parra led the Mats with 15 points. Seguin, eliminated from playoff contention, will host San Antonio Burbank on Friday night to close out their home schedule. KWED will broadcast the game.

(Seguin) — The Navarro basketball teams split a doubleheader with Cuero on Tuesday night at the new Navarro High School.

The Runnin’ Lady Panthers rolled past the Lady Gobblers 44-26 in the opener. Navarro jumped out to an 18-5 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Senior Camden Shields led the Lady Panthers with 16 points. Navarro will play in the Class 4A Division II bi-district round next week.

The Panther boys came up short in a 41-35 loss to Cuero. Navarro junior Bayley Burgess connected on five three-pointers and finished with a game-high 23 points.

The Panthers lead Gonzales by one game for the final playoff spot in District 28-4A. Navarro will play at last-place San Antonio Memorial on Friday and can clinch a postseason berth with a win.

(Marion) — The Marion boys and girls basketball teams split games with Great Hearts Northern Oaks at Marion High School on Tuesday night.

The Bulldog boys crushed the Griffins 70-39. The Bulldogs sit in first place in District 27-3A with a 7-1 district record. Marion is 24-7 overall and ranked 13th in the latest Class 3A state coaches poll. The Bulldogs have clinched a playoff spot.

The Great Hearts Northern Oaks girls edged the Lady Bulldogs 45-43. The Marion girls finished their season at 4-4 in district play and will compete in the Class 3A Division I bi-district round next week.
