(Seguin) — Seguin four-star quarterback Corey Dailey is now a Pitt Panther.

Seguin High School’s all-time leader in completions, passing yards, total yards, passing touchdowns, and total touchdowns made it official Wednesday on National Signing Day at a ceremony held at the high school. Ranked by 247Sports as the 13th-best quarterback in the country in his class, Dailey joins a legendary list of signal callers to wear Pitt’s blue and gold—including Alex Van Pelt, Kenny Pickett, and Dan Marino.

Dailey will graduate early and enroll in the University of Pittsburgh’s spring football program, joining his father and head coach, Craig Dailey, as a Seguin alum in January. Craig was also a star quarterback for the Matadors, graduating in 2000.

The younger Dailey reflected on the impact his father has had on his career.

“It’s gonna hurt not playing for him again. I don’t think it’s set in yet,” Corey Dailey said. “I’m sure he’ll be on the phone with me for missing reads and stuff, so I don’t know if I’ll miss that. He means a lot to me, though. He’s done a lot for me in my life ever since I was a kid. He’s gotten me to where I am today.”

Craig Dailey talked about the hard work his son put in to reach this moment.

“I’m super proud of his accomplishments. Not everybody knows the work that goes on behind the scenes,” Craig Dailey said. “He was kind of underrecruited early. You kind of look back and sometimes second-guess letting him do all his other sports. Did that really hurt him? Because a lot of kids go straight quarterback year-round. He puts in a lot of hard work.

“He would play a Tuesday night basketball game, then the next morning, he’s up doing his football workouts. And then he goes and gets ready to pitch in a baseball game on Friday night, and we fly out at 5:30 the next morning to do a workout across the country for somebody. Then he flies back on Monday morning. It’s a lot of hours that people don’t know that he put in to get here.”

Corey Dailey will don a Matador helmet one more time. He announced on social media earlier this week that he’s received an invitation to play in the Navy All-American Bowl, set for January 10th at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Dailey plans to head to Pittsburgh the following day to begin his college career.
