Fatal crash on SH 123 South remains under investigation

(Seguin) — Local authorities continue to investigate a pre-Thanksgiving collision that resulted in the death of a Seguin woman along State Highway 123 South.

The crash occurred on the morning of Nov. 26 at approximately 5:54 a.m. in the 14000 block of SH 123 S. According to officials, a Seguin Police Department officer who was driving to work reported via radio that he had been involved in a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision just south of the city limits.

Guadalupe County sheriff’s deputies, Seguin Police officers, and Seguin Fire/EMS personnel responded to the scene. The pedestrian, identified as Cindy Wiatrek, 67, of Seguin, was pronounced deceased.

Because the officer was operating a department-issued vehicle at the time of the crash, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was called in to conduct the primary investigation. Seguin Police officials say they are cooperating fully with DPS and have also launched an internal investigation. In accordance with department policy, the officer has been placed on administrative leave.

Authorities say the case remains an active and ongoing investigation. No additional details have been released.
