(Gonzales) — In the Class 3A Division I playoffs, the Marion Lady Bulldog volleyball team will take on Columbus this evening for an area round match.
The Lady Bulldogs swept Hondo last Thursday in the bi-district round. Marion, the undefeated champions of District 27-3A, come into tonight on a 15-match winning streak.
The Columbus Lady Cardinals, who went unbeaten in District 25-3A, have won 18 straight and are ranked fourth in Class 3A Division I in the state of Texas.
The winner of tonight’s Marion/Columbus area round match will meet the winner of the Corpus Christi London/Raymondville area match in the Region 4 semifinals later this week. Tonight’s match between the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Cardinals gets underway at 6:30 p.m. at Gonzales High School.
(Spring Branch) — The Navarro Lady Panthers, who swept past Carrizo Springs last week in the Class 4A Division II Bi-District round, will play former district rival Wimberley tonight at Smithson Valley High School.
The Lady Texans, the defending state champions in Class 4A Division II, are ranked third in the state. Wimberley defeated Navarro last season in the regional finals. The Lady Panthers will look to stop Wimberley’s current 28-match winning streak tonight.
The winner of tonight’s match will go on to the Region 4 semifinals later this week and meet the winner of the Laredo Harmony/Sweeney Area round match.
The Lady Panthers and Lady Texans will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at Smithson Valley High School.
(Schertz) — The Seguin Lady Matadors, who swept San Antonio John Jay in the Class 5A Division I Bi-District playoff last Thursday, will play Smithson Valley tonight.
The Lady Mats won District 27-5A with a 16-0 record. The Lady Rangers were the fourth-place team in 26-5A, finishing with a 10-6 record. The winner of tonight’s match will meet the winner of the area round match between Flour Bluff and Edinburg Vela in the Region 4 semis later this week.
The Lady Mats will look to avenge a loss to the Lady Rangers in last year’s area round. Tonight’s area match between Seguin and Smithson Valley will take place at Schertz Clemens High School. First serve is set for 6 o’clock.
