(Seguin) — This week’s Saturday Topic program on radio station KWED features a look at a local non-profit agency that’s doing some amazing work in local schools, and there’s a good chance that you know little about it.
Communities in Schools of South-Central Texas provides a number of services to students in Guadalupe, Comal and Caldwell counties. This includes schools in the Seguin, Navarro, Marion and Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City schools districts — which means it touches students all across Guadalupe County.
CEO Susan Wetz says that Communities in Schools has been providing services that fill in the gaps that can exists on local campuses, like crisis counseling and other mental health support.
The also offering an in-school mentoring program and all kinds of other services that aim to make sure students have the best outcome at school and in life.
During the Saturday Topic, Wetz discusses their work. She also describes how all of us can come together to better to support students across all the campuses that they serve.
“With Communities In Schools, we’re so uniquely positioned to have such amazing impacts on the lives of youth — our students, our children today, but then also their families. Community is literally in our name. So to be able to come together, you said at the very beginning, it takes a village to raise a child. I believe that to my core. So being able to come together as a community, especially in the world that we’re living in today, where we are just barraged with all kinds of negativity. Let’s flip that switch and come together as a community, support each other, love each other, and help raise up this next generation. There’s no better gift or calling that we could ever do. So, let’s do it, Seguin. Let’s do it,” said Wetz.
