Seguin Choir hits a high note of celebrating 100 years of music memories

(Seguin) – The Seguin High School Choir program will be rolling out the red carpet for a century of song, nostalgia, and maybe even a little “choreographed chaos.”

That’s according to Choir Director Perry Dean. Dean is inviting the community to tonight’s Spring Pops Choir Concert as a celebration of 100 years of choral tradition not only in the Seguin ISD but throughout the Seguin community.

“It celebrates the 100 years of established of music programs in the city of Seguin. I think it first started off as a choir glee club for girls a long time ago and developed into bands and choirs and everything else in Seguin. But Seguin has always been very supportive of the arts,” said Dean.

Meanwhile, alumni will be more than just guests for this musical milestone. Dean says they’re invited to join in.

“We’ve had a couple of people take us up on our invitation but I’m hoping that more people will show up. There was a song that was traditionally sung at the end of choir concerts for many many years called ‘The Lord Bless You and Keep You’ which I’ll invite all the alumni to come up and join us,” said Dean. “Come on up. It is all in good fun. You’ll enjoy it. It’s just like getting on a bicycle. Once you’ve been on it before, you’ll know how to do it.”

Tonight’s concert will feature the tunes of all those favorite blockbuster movies. It will also include some choreographed performances. The concert will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Seguin High School Performing Arts Center. The event is free.
