(Hallettsville) — The Marion Bulldogs open their area round playoff series against Hallettsville tonight in a game you can hear on KWED.

The Bulldogs, who finished second in District 27-3A, will take on the District 25-3A champion Brahmas. Marion swept Crystal City in the bi-district round last week, while the Hallettsville swept past Karnes City. The Brahmas are ranked 10th in the latest Class 3A coaches poll.

The area round matchup is a best-of-three series. Game one takes place tonight at 7 p.m. in Hallettsville. Game two is scheduled for tomorrow at 5 O’clock at Marion High School. A game three, if necessary, will be held following game two tomorrow.

The winner of the series will play the winner of Bishop/Falfurrias area series in the Region IV semifinals next week.

We’ll have tonight’s game on KWED. Our Marion Bulldog baseball pregame starts at 6:45 p.m. this evening on AM 1580 and streaming at SeguinToday.com.

(Marion) — The Navarro Panthers are in Marion tonight to start their Class 4A area round series with Floresville.

The Panthers finished with the top seed in District 26-4A. The Tigers finished second in District 27-4A. Floresville knocked off Cuero in the bi-district round last week, while Navarro run-ruled Manor New Tech twice in their bi-district series to advance. The Panthers defeated the Tigers 11-4 earlier this season in February at the Floresville Tournament.

Game one is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at Marion High School. Game two is Friday at 7 p.m. at Somerset High School. Game three, if necessary, will be held Saturday morning at 10 O’clock at Matadors Legends Ballpark in Seguin.

The series winner will play the winner of the Sinton/Zapata area playoff in the regional semifinals next week.

(Spring Branch) — And the Seguin Matadors will start their Class 5A best-of-three area round series with Smithson Valley tomorrow.

The Matadors, champions of District 27-5A, took down South San in three games in the bi-district round last week. The Rangers finished third in District 26-5A. Smithson Valley advanced by winning game three of their series with Leander Rouse earlier this week on Monday.

Game one will take place Friday night at Smithson Valley High School. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. Game two is scheduled for Saturday at Noon at Matador Legends Ballpark. Game three, if necessary, would take place following game two on Saturday.

The winner of the series will play either PSJA North or Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial in the regional semis next week. We will have all of the Matadors playoff games on KWED.

So again tonight, we’ll have game one between Marion and Hallettsville from Hallettsville on KWED. Tomorrow night, we’ll be at Smithson Valley High School for game one of the Matadors and Rangers.

We’ll have a possible game three between Navarro and Floresville on Saturday morning at Legends Ballpark and then game two and a possible game three between Seguin and Smithson Valley on Saturday afternoon. You’ll hear all the action on AM 1580 and streaming at SeguinToday.com.
