SEGUIN, Texas — Texas Lutheran softball’s Annie Kay (Sinton/Sinton) has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Hitter of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon. It marks the second weekly honor of the season for Kay and Texas Lutheran’s fifth of the season.
Kay slashed .556/.663/.778 hitting 5-for-9 with two doubles and five RBI while adding six runs scored and four stolen bases in the Bulldogs three-game series against Dallas.
The junior outfielder recorded multiple hits in two out of three games and recorded at least one RBI in each game. Kay went 1-for-4 with an RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored in game one. In game two, she recorded a two-hit effort with a double, while driving in two runs and scoring three and stealing two bases.
The Sinton native capped the weekend with another two-hit effort with another RBI double and scoring two more runs as the Bulldogs outscored the Crusaders 30-3 on the weekend.
The weekly honor is the third of Kay’s career.
Kay currently leads the SCAC with a .459 batting average on the season and is hitting .506 in conference play. Nationally, Kay ranks second in the nation in stolen bases (49) while ranking in the top 25 in hits (50) and runs (42). Recently, Kay became the fifth Bulldog in program history to eclipse the 100 career stolen base mark and currently ranks fourth in program history with 104 career stolen bases.
Kay and No. 6 TLU look to finish the regular season strong in Abilene, April 25-26, against McMurry. The three-game series starts with a doubleheader on Friday, April 25.
