
Dorothy Mae Kastner Altenhof, resident of Guadalupe County, passed away March 28, 2025 at the age of 94. Dorothy was born in McDade, Texas on January 8, 1931 to Dora Constance (Rother) and Morris Julius Kastner, Sr.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Howard August Altenhof; son, Russell Altenhof; brother, Charlie Klemm (Becky); sisters, Lela Bostic (Willard) and Ivy Ann Cronin and sister-in-law, Lulu Mae Schwab (Vernon).
Survivors include her daughters, Jeanette Barber (Paul) and Shirley Germann (Stephen); grandchildren, David Germann (Katy) and Jamie Altenhof; great-grandchildren, Cora, Rainor, and Opal Germann; brother, Morris Kastner, Jr. (Vernell) and caregiver, Leandra Washington.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Emanuel’s Lutheran Church at 9:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. with Vicar Rudy Salazar officiating. Interment will be at the Boecker Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Germann, Johnny Klemm, Joe Don Vickers, Mike Brune, John Calentine III, Brandon Garrett and James Germann. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy, Craig and Shawn Stark, Dan Reese, Steve Wolf, Robert Altwein, and First Responders/Volunteer Firefighters of Guadalupe County.
Dorothy was a State 4-H Sewing winner and met her husband on the train to National 4-H Congress in Chicago in 1949. She took pride working alongside her husband building the farm. She was an outstanding conservation homemaker, 4-H Leader, Clear Springs Extension Homemakers member, Guadalupe County Fair volunteer, and Election Poll worker.
