(Edinburg) — Seguin and Navarro powerlifters were in Edinburg at the state championships over the weekend.

In Class 5A, Seguin High School’s Dyanna Priestly finished 9th in the state in the 220 pound weight class. Priestly’s teammate Bryana Arce was 12th in the state in the 181 pound division for the Lady Matadors.

Navarro’s Sloan Wacaster finished 5th in the state in Class 4A in the 198 pound weight class. Lady Panther Kayley Thomas was 15th in the 181 pound division. Paola Hernandez finished 14th in the 165 pound division and Ayden Chapa finished just outside the top 10 in the 114 pound weight class.

The Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Championships for the men will take place in Abilene this Friday and Saturday with Navarro and Seguin lifters competing.

Seguin High School will be represented by powerlifters James Medrano, Gabe Soliz, Jasiah Herrera, Julius Rivera and Hunter Mica. Navarro powerlifters Ashton Evans, Korbin Benes, Dylan Trotti, Trinidad Aguirre, Caleb Shiroky and Evan Rodriguez will compete for the Panthers.
