(Spring Branch) — The Navarro Runnin’ Lady Panthers used a big run at the end of the first half and into the second half to race past the Lago Vista Lady Vikings in a 49-36 victory in the Class 4A bi-district round of the UIL girls’ basketball playoffs on Tuesday night at Smithson Valley High School.
Navarro had a 9-6 lead after the first quarter but fell behind 13-11 by the midway point of the second quarter. The Lady Panthers would then go on a 15-2 run to end the half to take a 26-15 lead at the half. Navarro scored the first six points of the second half and were never threatened the rest of the way.
Talking after the game, Lady Panther head coach Darrell Harborth said his team responded after overcoming first playoff game jitters.
“The first quarter, it was nerves for us I believe,” Harborth said. “Free throws, we missed a ton of them there but then we woke up and opened it up in the second quarter. And (we) had a great third quarter to up the lead. It’s playoff basketball. We got the first one under our belts, so that will help with down the road nerves.”
Harborth’s daughter, Tegan, led Navarro with 18 points on the night. Allyson Antista and Camden Shields each dropped in seven points.
