Navarro High School back in session after small fire

(Seguin) — Navarro High School is expected to be open today following a small fire yesterday afternoon. Officials say fire crews were called out to the campus around 5 p.m. Monday.

Upon arrival, they found smoke inside the building. The remaining students and staff were evacuated from the building and sent over to the Navarro Junior High School campus next door.

The fire was believed to be in an AC unit in the main office at the high school. The fire was extinguished and the damage was contained to that area.

Guadalupe County Fire Marshal Patrick Pinder says several fire departments responded to the call, including the Geronimo Volunteer Fire Department, Guadalupe County Fire & Rescue, Seguin Fire/EMS Deparment, New Braunfels Fire Department, San Marcos Fire Department and the Lake Dunlap Volunteer Fire Department.

Chelsea Ormond, Navarro ISD’s Director of Communications, says the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office was also on the scene. The district released more details in a note online to parents.

“Local fire and emergency response teams promptly arrived on campus and diligently investigated the source of the smoke which was contained to the front office area. The HVAC system was immediately turned off preventing any further issues to systems in other areas of the school. Thankfully, other areas of the campus were unaffected and systems are still operational. We will have contractors on site (today) to begin repairs for the damaged areas,” said Ormond.

Pinder says the exact cause of that fire remains under investigation.
