Seguin Matadors look to extend four-game win streak tonight on KWED

The Seguin and San Antonio Highlands JV basketball teams compete prior to the varsity game at Goldie Harris Gym on January 3, 2025.

(Seguin) — The Seguin Matadors, in a four-way tie for first place in District 27-5A after the first half of district play, will host San Antonio Sam Houston tonight on KWED.

The Mats have won four straight and are tied with Jefferson, Highlands and Edison atop the district at 6-2. Seguin beat Edison and Highlands in the first round of district play. The Matadors were narrowly defeated by Jefferson, 59-58 in December.

Tonight’s game between the Matadors and Sam Houston Hurricanes tips off at 6:30 p.m. Our Matador basketball pregame starts at 6:20 p.m. from Goldie Harris Gym on AM 1580 and streaming at SeguinToday.com.

(San Antonio) — Meanwhile, the streaky Seguin Lady Matadors will play at Sam Houston tonight.

The Lady Mats dropped their first three district games before winning four in a row. Seguin has followed that four-game win streak with a three-game losing streak.

Sam Houston is in first place in district. The Lady Hurricanes are unbeaten in district through 10 games and 24-4 overall on the season. They are ranked 14th in the latest Class 5A girls state coaches poll. Tonight’s game will tip at 7:30 p.m. at Sam Houston High School.

(Universal City) — The Marion basketball teams will head down the road to Universal City to take on the Randolph basketball teams.

Both Marion teams will look to rebound after they fell to Cole on Friday in District 27-3A play. The Marion boys took the 10th-ranked Cougars to overtime on a buzzer-beating three pointer from Jaiden Riley at the end of regulation, but came up short in the extra session.

The Marion/Randolph girls/boys doubleheader will start with the girls game at 6:15 p.m. today at Randolph High School.

(Geronimo) — The Navarro Runnin’ Lady Panthers are back on their home court tonight.

Navarro faced three ranked teams to start their District 26-4A schedule. The Lady Panthers beat 20th-ranked Wimberley before dropping their next two to 6th-ranked Fredericksburg and 25th-ranked Davenport. Navarro will host Canyon Lake tonight. The game tips at 6:30 p.m. at Navarro High School.

(Fischer) — The Navarro Panther boys will look to even their district record at one win apiece when they play on the road at Canyon Lake tonight.

The Panthers fell to the 18th-ranked Davenport Wolves in their district opener on Friday night. Navarro and Canyon Lake will tip tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Canyon Lake High School.

(Seguin) — And the Lifegate Christian Falcon basketball teams are hosting Sunnybrook Christian in a girls/boys doubleheader this afternoon at Lifegate Christian School.

The girls will play first at 5:30 p.m.
