(Seguin) – A local church will give “thanks” to area veterans this weekend.
Straight Street Church, in partnership with the Priesthood Motorcycle Ministries, Alamo Chapter, will be hosting a Veterans Day Thanksgiving Dinner. The free dinner will be held from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday in The American Legion Hall.
Senior Pastor Robert Acuna says he is blessed to have crossed paths with the San Antonio organization.
“The San Antonio Chapter has done this every year, and I recently met the president of the Motorcycle Ministries, and he was like we have really been wanting to do this in Seguin and we are looking for a location or a partner who would help us and so we just talked about it. I prayed about it and that’s how it came to be. They have done this for the last five years and so we are hoping to make this an annual thing in Seguin,” said Acuna.
Acuna says they hope to serve as many veterans and family members as possible. He says the meal will be a complete Thanksgiving menu to include turkey and all the trimmings.
Acuna says the meal is the least the groups can do in observance of all veterans and their continued sacrifices.
“Veterans are sometimes a forgotten group of people –– especially our older veterans, those coming back from Vietnam even, they end up homeless and having nothing and no one and it’s really been in our hearts to even start a veterans ministry here in our church,” said Acuna.
The American Legion is located at 618 E. Kingsbury Street. No sign-up or registration is required.
