Irene Marie Condel Schaefer

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today
Irene Marie Condel Schaefer

Irene Marie Condel Schaefer, age 76 of Seguin, passed away on November 5, 2024.  Irene was born on September 12, 1948 in Shiner, Texas to Josephine (Schleinschok) and Henry Condel.

Irene continued to work in the family insurance business that she started with her husband Adolph in 1978. She was instrumental in building Schaefer Crop Insurance and was still very involved in the daily operations. She had a strong faith in God and was a member of St. James Catholic Church. Irene loved her whole family with a full heart. Her kind words and ability to be there for everyone no matter what they needed will be missed by everyone that knew her. Irene could beat any of us playing Scrabble and she was the one you wanted on your team for Spades. We will miss her cooking, her laugh, her beautiful smile, her advice and especially her hugs. She was the true matriarch of our whole family and set the example of how we should live our lives.

Irene is preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Adolph L. Schaefer, Jr., her parents, and her brothers, Jimmy Condel and Henry Condel and brother-in-law, Damon Schaefer.

Survivors include her daughter, Yvonne Lopez and husband Noel; sons, Craig Schaefer and wife Nichole, and Derek Schaefer; grandchildren, Tyler Behlen and wife Brooke, Brandi Surman and husband Jeff, and Stephanie Schaefer and fiancé Seth Lawler; great-grandchildren, Ty, Trigger, Tinsley and Timber Behlen; sisters, Diana Johnston and husband Dusty, Rose Roecker and husband Albert, and Patsy Fitzimmons; brothers, Johnny Condel and wife Theresa and Alvin Condel and wife Becky; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Condel, Bobbie Condel, Patsy Boehm and husband Bobby, and Janie Boehm and husband Waldo; brothers-in-law, Randy Schaefer and wife Mimi, Donnie Schaefer and wife Gayle, and Mike Schaefer; several aunts, uncles, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, other loving family members and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024 at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel at 5 p.m. followed by the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. with Reverend Gregory J. Nevlud officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 306 Ave. F, Shiner, Texas with Rev. Msgr. Dennis Darilek officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiner Catholic Cemetery. A reception will follow.

Serving as pallbearers will be Cole McDonald, Donnie Alsobrooks, Dennis Hausler, Reid Schaefer, Ross Roecker, Jason Condel and Clay Baker.

We, the family, would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr James Rider for going above and beyond for so many years and Amanda with GRMC Hospice for helping us get through these last weeks.
