(Seguin) — It’s a battle of 2-2 teams in District 13-5A as the Seguin Matadors host the Wagner Thunderbirds tonight at Matador Stadium.

Both teams have lost to Pieper and Smithson Valley. The Warriors top the district at 4-0. The Rangers are tied for second with New Braunfels at 3-1. Seguin and Wagner are currently tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in the district standings with three games left in the season.

“We’re treating it like a playoff game,” Seguin head coach Craig Dailey said about tonight’s match-up. “We got to make them go down the field and not give up big plays.

“Defensively, they’re super-athletic. They give you a bunch of different looks, a lot of different fronts.  They play different coverages. Every game they have a different look, so we have to figure out what their plan is to stop us.”

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7 p.m. We’ll have the game on KWED. Prior to tonight’s kickoff, former Seguin student-athlete Brooke Abrameit and former Seguin athletic director  and head football coach Mike Honeycutt will be inducted into the Seguin ISD Athletic Hall of Honor.

In other area games tonight:

(Geronimo) — The Navarro Panthers host Smithville at homecoming tonight at Navarro High School. The Panthers are 2-2 in District 13-4A, while the Tigers are still looking for their first district. Tonight’s Navarro homecoming game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Erwin-Lee Field in Geronimo.

(Ingram) — And the Marion Bulldogs, 2-0 in District 13-3A, are on the road at Ingram Moore. The Warriors are 1-1 in district play. The game kicks at 7 p.m. tonight at Moore High School in Ingram.

We’ll have week nine of High School Football Friday Night tonight on KWED. We’ll kick off our coverage at 6:15 p.m. with the Navarro Panther report with Navarro coach Rod Blount. The Panther report will be followed by the Marion Bulldog report with Marion coach Ryne Miller.

And then we’ll head over to Matador Stadium for our Seguin football pregame coverage where we’ll have more with coach Craig Dailey inside the Matador report.
