(Marion) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs swept past District 27-3A foe Young Women’s Leadership Academy on Tuesday night in their final home match of the regular season.

The Lady Bulldogs took the match 25-15, 25-9, 25-20. Outside junior hitter Emily Sampson led Marion with 15 kills. Junior middle hitter Madi Love threw down five kills. Freshman Kelly Williams also had five kills. And junior setter Ellie Parker paced the Lady Bulldogs with 22 assists.

Marion improved to 6-2 in district play. They have two more road games left on their regular season schedule as they prepare for the Bi-District playoffs, which take place November 4th and 5th. Marion head coach Mellissa Mitchell Schuetz feels her team is getting close to ready for the playoffs.

“I feel like we’re getting there,” Mitchell Schuetz said. “This is a part of the run. This is where the run begins. That’s what I’m trying to convey to the girls in practice that the focus and the work to making a good run has already started.”

It was Senior Night for the volleyball team on Tuesday night. In the second set, senior Bristin Birdwell recorded her 500th dig of the season. The match was stopped momentarily to recognize Birdwell’s achievement. The Marion back line defender finished with 18 digs on the night to lead the Lady Bulldogs. She also led Marion with four service aces. Fellow senior Emily Chambers finished the match with nine digs.

Marion will play at Cole on Friday and then finish their regular season next Tuesday at Randolph.

(San Antonio) — The Seguin Lady Matadors stayed unbeaten in District 27-5A with a sweep at San Antonio Highlands on Tuesday night.

Seguin also has two more games left before they compete in the Bi-District playoffs. The Lady Mats play at San Antonio Burbank on Friday in a battle of the top two teams in district. The Lady Bulldogs have only lost one game in district, that loss was to Seguin last month at Goldie Harris Gym. The Lady Matadors will finish the regular season against Brackenridge at home next Tuesday at Goldie Harris.

(San Antonio) — And the Navarro Lady Panthers fell at Class 4A 7th-ranked Davenport Tuesday in District 26-4A play.

The Lady Wolves took down the Lady Panthers, winning three tough sets 25-19, 25-19, 25-18. Navarro has clinched a spot in the playoffs. They are tied for third place in the district with Fredericksburg.
