17th-ranked Floresville hands Seguin first loss since August; Marion gets district home win while Navarro falls at 5th-ranked Wimberley

(Seguin) — Class 4A 17th-ranked Floresville rallied past Seguin on Tuesday night, handing the Lady Matadors their first loss in a month and a half.

Down two sets to one, Floresville came back to take the final two sets, winning by a final tally of 25-21, 22-25, 20-25, 25-23, 15-8. The Lady Mats held a 22-19 lead in the fourth set, but Floresville battled back with a 6-1 run to win the set and then took the fifth set to win the match.

Seguin’s back line was kept busy by Floresville’s strong hitters. Mia Hernandez led the Lady Mats with 30 digs. Karina Lerma came up with 26 digs. Gisele Morales had 24 digs. And Britlyn Walls and Danica Rushlow had 19 and 17 digs, respectively.

Lerma punched through 15 kills. Ellie Anderson threw down 14 kills and blocked five shots. Mia Hernadez also had double digit kills with 10.

Tuesday’s defeat was the first for Seguin since an August 31st setback against San Antonio Christian. The Lady Matadors are still unbeaten in District 27-5A play at 12-0. Seguin will return to district action on Friday with a road match against San Antonio Edison.

(Marion) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs improved to 4-2 in District 27-3A on Tuesday night with a four set home victory over Great Hearts Monte Vista.

Marion took the match 25-9, 15-25, 25-11, 25-19. The Lady Bulldogs were led by Madi Love who had 14 kills. Lailah Hernandez served up five aces. And Ellie Parker set up her teammates with 26 assists.

Marion continues district play tomorrow with a road match at Great Hearts Northern Oaks.

(Wimberley) — And the Navarro Lady Panthers fell in straight sets at 5th-ranked Wimberley in District 26-4A play on Tuesday.

The Lady Texans won the match 25-15, 25-14, 25-21. Wimberley improved their district record to 5-1 while the Lady Panthers fell to 3-3.

Navarro will next take on Canyon Lake in a district road match on Friday.
