Boots and Butterflies annual gala set for Thursday

Thriving Hearts Crisis Center to give domestic violence the boot

(Seguin) – Only a few tickets remain for this year’s Boots and Butterflies Annual Gala benefiting the Thriving Hearts Crisis Center.

Thriving Hearts Crisis Center, formerly Guadalupe Valley Family Violence Shelter, is hosting the annual fundraiser this Thursday at the Seguin Coliseum.

Crisis Center CEO Manijeh “MJ” Huereca says the fundraiser is not only an opportunity to showcase the shelter’s role in keeping families safe, but it’s also a chance for the community to see how it, too, can be a part of changing lives.

“October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and we really strive to make an effort to get the word out there and this event is really a way to highlight how the community can come together to support some of our most vulnerable community members. That’s women, men, children. Domestic violence affects everybody,” said Huereca.

Huereca says the shelter has been a cornerstone of support for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in the Guadalupe Valley area since 1983. She says as the only shelter service of its kind in our community, the impact of what it does is great.

“We are really hoping to make an impact by growing off the foundation that our 40 years of previous history has given us,” said Huereca. “Thriving Hearts has been steadfast in providing safety, support, and empowerment to those affected by these deeply impactful issues. Our gala is not only a celebration of our achievements but also a crucial moment to rally together in support of our continued efforts.

This special event allows us to raise vital funds that directly impact our ability to expand services, enhance programs, and reach more individuals in need.”

Organizers say the night of dinner, drinks, and dancing is all about celebrating the lives of over 600 adult and children survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and sex trafficking that the local crisis center helps annually.

Huereca asks folks to come out and join the fun. She adds the attire will be cowboy chic or the color purple in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

“As far as fundraisers go, it’s not your typical black tie formal wear. It’s fun and lighthearted – you can wear your boots. We are going to have dinner, a silent auction, live auction, live band – Tiffany Dawn will be performing and then we will have a testimonial as well, said Huereca.

Tickets are $50 a person. Table sponsorships for 10 are also available for $500. The doors to the event open at 5:30 pm. Thursday. Tickets are asked to be purchased online as soon as possible. Tickets are available at thrivingheartscc.org. No tickets will be sold at the door.
