SEGUIN, Texas – Texas Lutheran football’s fifth-year senior wide receiver and kick returner Eugene Robinson IV (Lake Charles, LA/Fort Bend Hightower) was honored by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) as the Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday following the fifth week of action.
Robinson answered an Austin College third quarter scoring drive in record fashion with a TLU and SCAC record 102-yard kickoff return to give the Bulldogs a 29-14 lead on its way to a 43-34 home victory. The return is the longest in TLU program history as well as SCAC history and the first return touchdown in Robinson’s career. The record was previously held by Casey Davis who returned a kick 97 yards against East Texas Baptist in 2012. Robinson also set the single-game record for kickoff return average in TLU program history at 63.5 yards per return.
Robinson also added two catches for 12 yards in the win.
On the season, Robinson is averaging 32.7 yards per kick return and a touchdown on his six attempts. He leads the SCAC in kick return average and ranks 15th nationally in NCAA Division-III. He also has 10 receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown offensively this season.
The selection marks the fourth time this season a TLU football player has been honored by the league office this season and the third time TLU has won Special Teams Player of the Week.
