We have Marion football tonight on KWED.

(Luling) — The Marion Bulldogs start their district season on the road tonight in Luling.

The Bulldogs and Eagles will kick off play in District 13-3A at Eagle Field. Both teams finished the non-district portion of their season at 1-4.

After a tough non-district schedule which included two 4A opponents, Marion head coach Ryne Miller says his team is ready for the district season.

“We’re back to 0-0. First thing I did Saturday morning was write ‘o-o’ on the white board because it’s a new season and we feel like we have a very competitive team,” Miller said. “We just gotta put some things together. We feel like we changed some things in practice this week and these guys are buying in. We’ve had our best week of practice so far this whole season. We’re headed in the right direction and we’re excited to get district started.”

Marion will hope to get big games from quarterback Kade Pape along with play-making receivers Jack Wells and Jaiden Riley. Running back Christian Sanchez leads the rushing attack. And linebacker Hadley Mote leads the defense. Mote broke the Marion single season record for tackles last year.

Tonight’s game between Luling and Marion kicks off at 7 p.m. at Eagle Field in Luling. We’ll have all the action for you on KWED.

(Salado) — The Navarro Panthers play their second District 13-4A game tonight up in Salado.

The Salado Eagles and Panthers are both looking to even their district records. Salado fell 34-24 at Lago Vista in their week one matchup while Navarro was dropped 47-21  by 8th-ranked Wimberley.

After falling behind in the first half, the Panther Slot-T offense continued to run the ball in the second half. Navarro rushed for 279 yards in the game against a stout Texans defense. Panther head coach Rod Blount said their offensive line was able to open holes last week against Wimberley.

“The big thing was the drive to open the second half. We started getting some push with the offensive line,” Blount said. “First half, I though we moved the ball in spurts. We just got in some bad situations with penalties that put us back and that’s something we gotta fix.”

The Navarro Panthers and Salado Eagles kickoff at 7:30 tonight in Salado.

And we’ll have High School Football Friday Night week number six tonight on KWED. Our coverage starts at 6:20 p.m. with the Navarro Panther report where we’ll visit more with Navarro coach Rod Blount.

And then we’ll head over to Luling and Eagle Field for our Bulldog football pregame where we’ll talk more with Marion coach Ryne Miller inside the Bulldog report taking you up to kickoff between Marion and Luling from Eagle Field tonight at 7 O’clock. You’ll hear it all on AM 1580 and streaming online worldwide at SeguinToday.com.

The Seguin Matadors have a bye this week. In fact, all teams in District 13-5A have the night off tonight. The Matadors will be back in action next Friday night when they host the Pieper Warriors at Matador Stadium. We’ll have that game on KWED.
