SEGUIN, Texas — A second half goal from freshman Lilly Noblett (San Antonio/Warren) helped Texas Lutheran top Schreiner, 2-0, Sunday at Gustafson Field.

TLU moves to 4-3-1 with the win, while Schreiner drops to 1-5-1. The 4-3-1 (.563) mark is the best non-conference finish thus far in the Kerwin Johnson era of TLU women’s soccer with three of their eight matches coming against regionally ranked opponents.

The Bulldogs led the shot count, 16-3, including a dominant 7-1 outing in the first half, and held the Mountaineers without a corner kick while earning eight of their own. Texas Lutheran would maintain possession for nearly 70 percent of the match. Callie Brame (San Antonio/Churchill) led the Bulldogs with five shots.

The game did not remain tied long as a Schreiner own goal 45 seconds into the match gave the Bulldogs a near immediate 1-0 lead which the Bulldogs would maintain through halftime.

Texas Lutheran would double their lead with a 57th minute goal from Noblett that came via assists from Brame and Ariana Gomez (San Antonio/Randolph). TLU limited Schreiner to just two shots in the second half and none of the Mountaineers three shots were on target.

All three of the Bulldogs goalkeepers: Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop), Skylar LeBlanc (League City/Clear Falls), and Charleigh Phipps (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs) saw action on Sunday with Marquez picking up the win in-goal.

Up next, the Bulldogs will open SCAC play on Friday, Oct. 4, on the road as they travel to Irving to face University of Dallas at 7 PM. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
