City Fall Cleanup Day set for this Saturday

City Fall Cleanup Day set for this Saturday

Residents invited to clear out homes, yards

(Seguin) – With new changes in store next week for trash pickup, City of Seguin officials are encouraging residents to take full advantage of this weekend’s 2024 Fall Clean-Up Day.

The City of Seguin is offering residents an opportunity to get rid of unwanted items during the free event to be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Seguin Coliseum parking lot located at 950 S. Austin St.

At this time, Seguin residents who live in the city limits will have an opportunity to get rid of all their bulky items – items that beginning next week will no longer be picked up during their normal trash schedule. Instead, residents will have a scheduled time each quarter in which they can dispose of those items.

Jennifer Sourdellia, the city’s public information officer, says despite the upcoming changes, residents have come to take advantage of the annual Fall Clean Up.

“This is a prime opportunity for citizens to clear out their yards and homes of unwanted, broken or old items. We’ll take care of getting it disposed of safely and properly,” said Sourdellia.

Sourdellia says it’s also always important to remind residents of things that will and will not be accepted during the collection.

“A maximum of 10 automobile tires will be accepted. No tractor-trailer, mower, bicycle or ATV tires will be collected. Tires with rims or tires larger than 19.5 inches are not allowed. Tires from local businesses will not be accepted. Paper shredding will also be available as a free service at the event. Residents can bring any documents containing sensitive information for secure on-site shredding and disposal. Up to two bags or boxes will be accepted for shredding. Brush, hazardous chemicals, construction materials or building debris, old fences, sheds or torn down building materials will not be accepted. Appliances containing Freon or other refrigerants are not allowed,” said Sourdellia.

Only Seguin residents who live in the city limits are able to participate in the Clean Up Day event.  Participants are required to provide proof of residency by showing a photo ID or utility bill. City employees will be available to assist residents with unloading items from trucks and trailers.

A list of all items that will be accepted can be found on the city of Seguin website or Facebook page.
