Marion track & field student-athletes punch tickets to region meet

(Altair) — The Marion track & field teams had a number of regional qualifiers with great showings at the Class 3A area meet on Thursday at Rice Consolidated High School.

Gavin Soefje placed fourth in the boys 800 meter run.

Chase Hallmark took fourth in the boys triple jump.

Michael Purcell was third in the boys discus.

Justin Dehoyos was third in the boys shot put.

Brody Fizer was fourth in the boys pole vault.

Maggie Luna took third in the girls 100 meter dash. And Luna placed fourth in the 200 meters.

Emily Sampson was fourth in the girls shot put.

Maggie Rudisaile, Mandy Jenkins and Kaitlyn Rackley swept the medal board earning the top three spots, respectively in the girls pole vault.

The Marion girls finished fourth as a team with the 4X100 meter relay team of Kamryn Garza, Maggie Rudisaile, Eva Sarmiento and Maggie Luna finishing in third place.

All the Bulldog qualifiers will compete at the Class 3A Region IV track and field meet. That meet will take place next Friday and Saturday, April 19-20 at Seguin High School.
